Own Damage vs Third-Party

Third-Party (TP) is mandatory by law under the Motor Vehicles Act. It covers damage or injury caused to a third party but does not protect your own vehicle. Premium is fixed annually by IRDAI.

Own Damage (OD) covers damage to your own car from accidents, theft, fire, flood, and natural calamities. Voluntary deductible lowers the premium but you bear that portion of each claim.

Comprehensive = TP + OD + chosen add-ons. Recommended for all cars under 7 years old. Once the IDV is very low (old cars), you may consider dropping OD.

NCB tip: Never make small claims (under ₹15,000–20,000) — you lose the NCB discount which is worth more over time.

Premiums shown are indicative estimates. Consult an IRDAI-registered advisor before purchasing.
